Apple has started to distribute the iOS 17.3 update, which includes several new features and security patches, to all devices that are compatible, including the iPhone XS series and more recent models. Protection against stolen devices is one of the most crucial functions. It forces users to utilise Face ID or Touch ID in order to complete specific tasks, such altering their Apple ID password or device passcode, without the need for a passcode fallback.

It gives the owner of the stolen iPhone more time to secure it. The criminal cannot alter iPhone passwords or passcodes, attempt to steal money from apps connected to Apple IDs, or even attempt to access the device’s passcode.

Stolen Device Protection —Stolen Device Protection increases security of iPhone and Apple ID by requiring Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback to perform certain actions — Security Delay requires Face ID or Touch ID, an hour wait, an additional successful biometric authentication before sensitive operations like changing device passcode or Apple ID password can be performed.
