On Sunday, the all-around Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Chennai Super Kings by six wickets after a spin display from Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine was followed by stunning fifty scores from captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh. This victory gave them two critical points and kept their playoff aspirations alive.
The spinners from Kolkata outperformed those from Chennai as the visitors initially held MS Dhoni and company to a disappointing 144 for 6. Then, with nine balls remaining, Nitish and Rinku put together an amazing 99-run fourth wicket stand to win the game and deny the home spinners a single wicket.
The remarkable victory was Kolkata’s sixth of the year, moving them into a 12-point tie for second place in the standings. Chennai, on the other hand, retained second place with 15 points despite the loss.
