The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and all of its field offices across India celebrated the 164th anniversary of Income Tax Day today. The main event was place in the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, presided over the ceremony. Shri Pankaj Choudhury, Union Minister of State (Finance), also attended the event. In addition to other Department executives and officials, Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary, Revenue, and Shri Nitin Gupta, Chairman, CBDT, were present.
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, expressed gratitude for the CBDT’s remarkable performance and field formation in all areas of activity in her keynote presentation.The Finance Minister also praised the Department’s ongoing efforts to implement the three ‘R’s, which she had previously emphasised: return processing, refund issue, and grievance redressal.
Smt. Sitharaman also praised taxpayers, tax practitioners/professionals, and stakeholders for their role in propelling India’s economic progress and prosperity. The Finance Minister noticed that revenue collection has increased in recent years despite no rise in tax rates. It was made feasible by the Department’s increased efficiency.
