On Wednesday, Australian PM Anthony Albanese announced that Sydney will host the 2023 QUAD Leaders Summit on May 24th. the third in-person meeting of Australia, the United States, India, and Japan’s leaders. “I am honoured to host the first-ever Quad Leaders’ Summit in Australia in Sydney,” Albanese added.
“The Quad is dedicated to promoting an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region that respects sovereignty while ensuring security and growth for all.” According to Albanese, the leaders will address how the Quad can engage with partners and regional groups such as ASEAN and the Pacific Islands Forum to improve cooperation and shape the area.
The Quad is an informal alliance formed by India, the United States, Japan, and Australia to function as a potential bulwark against China’s expanding political, commercial, and military presence in the Indo-Pacific. The Quad, according to China, is an attempt to counter its expanding power in the Indo-Pacific.
